LCG, May 14, 2025--The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) accepted Dow's construction permit application to build X-energy Reactor Company, LLC's ("X-energy") first small modular reactor (SMR) plant to power a chemical facility in Seadrift, Texas. Dow's wholly-owned subsidiary, Long Mott Energy LLC, is developing the project to provide Dow's UCC1 Seadrift Operations manufacturing site with safe, reliable, and clean power and industrial steam to replace existing energy and steam assets that are approaching end-of-life. The project is part of a demonstration project supported by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and, if approved, would be the first advanced nuclear facility at an industrial site in the United States.

Ontario to Restart Nuclear Reactor
LCG, July 7, 2004--Ontario Power Generation (OPG) received approval to proceed with a project, budgeted now at $900 million, to refurbish and restart unit 1 at the Pickering A Generating Station located east of Toronto. The decision is driven in part by the estimate that the 515 MW nuclear unit can begin producing power in just 15 months - more rapidly than other alternatives - to meet growing electricity demands and to compensate for the government's planned closure of coal-fired plants, including the 1,150 MW Lakeview Station in April 2005.The approval to proceed with unit 1 follows a troublesome past with Pickering refurbishment efforts. The first of four Pickering A reactors returned to service in September 2003, more than two years late and at a cost nearly three times that approved by the Board of Directors of OPG. Ontario Energy Minister Dwight Duncan vows this won't happen again. "The lack of transparency and accountability at OPG under the former government led to a serious waste of money - we will do things differently," Duncan said. "I am not willing to write OPG another blank cheque. I have directed OPG to report regularly to the public on the progress of this project, and we have an independent auditor in place to help ensure the project stays on track."
