LCG, November 6, 2025--X-energy Reactor Company, LLC, (X-energy) and the U.S. Office of Nuclear Energy today announced the start of confirmatory irradiation testing at Idaho National Laboratory (INL) to qualify X-energy’s proprietary TRISO-X fuel pebbles for commercial use in the Xe-100 Small Modular Reactor (SMR). (TRISO stands for TRi-structural ISOtropic). This is the first time that TRISO-X fuel pebbles will undergo irradiation testing in a U.S. lab, which is a critical step in meeting requirements set forth by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for the commercial deployment of advanced reactors that will use the fuel.

LCG, October 28, 2025--NextEra Energy and Google yesterday announced two agreements that will help meet growing electricity demand from artificial intelligence (AI) with clean, reliable, 24/7 nuclear power and strengthen the nation's nuclear leadership. First, Google signed a new, 25-year agreement for power generated at the Duane Arnold Energy Center, Iowa's only nuclear power facility. The 601-MW boiling water reactor unit was shut down in 2020 and is expected to commence operations by the first quarter of 2029, pending regulatory approvals to restart the plant.

PG&E Pursues New Power Supplies
LCG, November 4, 2004--Yesterday Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) issued two Requests for Offers (RFOs) for long-term power supply contracts that total 2,200 MW of power, with about 1,200 MW to be available by 2008 and the remainder by 2010.The RFO follows PG&E's long-term resource plan that was filed with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) in July 2004. In the resource plan, PG&E proposed a 50/50 mix of utility-owned generating facilities and wholesale generator contracts. The RFO criteria for utility-owned generation includes all fuel types and technologies for new, dispatchable facilities with a capacity of at least 25 MW. Similarly, the RFO criteria for long-term contracts is for peaking capacity of at least 25 MW. With respect to renewable energy supplies, a process is already underway at PG&E for additional intermediate and long-term contracts.PG&E expects the CPUC to issue a final decision on the long-term resource plan by the end of the year. The initial responses to the RFOs are due January 14, 2005, and PG&E plans to submit the executed contracts to the CPUC in June 2005.
