LCG, May 14, 2026--The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced today that it is proposing a rule to revise wastewater limits, known as effluent limitations guidelines (ELG), for steam electric power plants that will help improve grid reliability and lower electricity prices while continuing to support clean and safe water resources. If finalized, the EPA's proposal is estimated to reduce electricity generation costs by as much as $1.1 billion annually, which could provide cost-savings to American consumers.

LCG, May 14, 2026--The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced the selection of eight companies to support the near-term deployment of advanced light-water small modular reactors (SMRs) in the United States. The DOE states that awardees will collectively receive more than $94 million in Federal cost-shared funding to spur additional Gen III+ SMR deployments by addressing key gaps that have hindered the domestic nuclear industry in licensing, supply chain, and site preparation.

NRC Renews Operating Licenses for Dominion's Millstone Units
LCG, November 29, 2005--The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) renewed the operating licenses for Dominion's Units 2 and 3 at the Millstone Power Station in Connecticut. The renewal adds 20 years to the operating licenses, extending the lives of Units 2 and 3 to July 31, 2035, and November 25, 2045, respectively. Unit 1, which, commenced commercial operations in 1970 and ceased operations in 1998, is in the process of being decommissioned.The NRC conducted a review process, which included safety and environmental issues, that spanned nearly two years.The combined electric generating capacity of the two units is approximately 2,020 MW, which is sufficient to provide for nearly half of of Connecticut's electricity needs. Dominion acquired Millstone in 2001.
