Duke Energy Submits Early Site Permit Application to NRC for New Nuclear Reactors in North Carolina

LCG, December 30, 2025--Duke Energy announced today its submission of an early site permit (ESP) application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The site is near the Belews Creek Steam Station in Stokes County, North Carolina. The submittal follows two years of work at the site, and the announcement states that the submittal is part of Duke Energy's strategic, on-going commitment to evaluate new nuclear generation options to reliably meet the growing electricity needs of its customers while reducing costs and risks.

OG&E Announces Plans to Purchase Wind Project

LCG, December 28, 2005--Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company (OG&E) announced last week that it has agreed to purchase a 120-MW wind project located in northwestern Oklahoma for $180 million. The non-binding agreement is a letter of intent with Invenergy Wind LLC, an affiliate of Chicago-based Invenergy LLC.

The wind farm would be developed by Invenergy Wind LLC and would be owned and operated by OG&E. The project site is in Harper County. The final terms of the agreement must still be developed and would be subject to approval by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission. Given timely development and approval of the agreement, the project could be built and begin generating electricity by the end of 2006.
