ERCOT 2019 Summer Quarter Outlook

LCG, May 29, 2019-- LCG released a new summer (June – September 2019) report that looks at how the ERCOT grid copes with strained network conditions. Resource adequacy analysis for the region is especially important during extreme summer loading conditions. This summer the network is under particular scrutiny as the reserves have tightened because of recent retirements.

Innovative UPLAN 7.5 Released, Most Advanced Electricity Modeling System Ever Available

Los Altos, California – December 8, 2006: LCG Consulting proudly announces the release of its latest electricity market modeling system, UPLAN 7.5.

This innovative software suite provides unsurpassed detail and realism in a highly user-friendly environment. “This is – without a doubt – the most advanced and easiest to use electricity modeling system ever released,” proclaimed Sidart Deb, the chief architect of UPLAN 7.5.

UPLAN integrates an electricity market simulation with a full AC or DC network transmission model, projects hourly Locational Market Prices (LMP), and is fully compliant with FERC Standard Market Design. Consistent with market design trends, it performs co-optimization of energy and ancillary service procurement based on opportunity costs and elimination of inter-commodity arbitrage.

UPLAN’s full-fledged Security Constrained Unit Commitment (SCUC) and Security Constrained Economic Dispatch (SCED), including congestion management, can utilize extensive contingency sets for absolute realism. In fact, UPLAN has been successfully utilized to accurately simulate and analyze numerous regional markets, including California, New York, New England, the Pennsylvania Jersey Maryland (PJM) Interconnection, the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator (MISO), and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT).

The day-ahead market is simulated in UPLAN by optimizing the commitment of resources for energy and all ancillary services, as well as taking into account both inter-regional and intra-regional transmission constraints, and incorporating optimal power flow (OPF) and resource scheduling constraints. Committed resources are then dispatched using OPF to emulate real-time SCED.

UPLAN 7.5 contains the following exciting new features:

  • Ancillary Service Quantities

  • Report Comparisons

  • Complex Startup Profiles

  • Hourly Energy Percentages for Wind Profiles

  • Ability to Import Multiple Hourly Profiles From .csv

  • Marginal Generator Reports

  • Load Weighted Average Price Reports

  • Enhanced Combined Cycle Logic

  • 64-bit Technology

  • Database Management Console

  • Power-flow Export

“This latest version of UPLAN exceeds my wildest dreams,” declared Dr. Rajat Deb, the original architect of the model. “The advanced features contained in this software package could not have even been imagined a few years ago, much less when we first created the groundbreaking model.”
