New York Poised to Close Last Coal-fire Power Plant

LCG, December 4, 2019--The last operating coal-fired power plant in New York is moving toward closure shortly. Last month, Somerset Operating Company, a subsidiary of Riesling Power LLC, submitted a request to the New York State Public Service Commission (NYSPSC) to waive the state's required, 180-day notice to close the Somerset Station, allowing the facility to be retired on February 15, 2020. FPL Energy Moves Forward with North Dakota Wind Farm

LCG, March 30, 2007-- Minnkota Power Cooperative, Inc., and Otter Tail Power Company yesterday announced that they had executed an agreement with FPL Energy to develop the Langdon Wind Project in Cavalier County, North Dakota. The agreement is a result of requests for proposals (RFPs) issued by Minnkota and Otter Tail in 2006.

FPL Energy will construct and operate the Langdon Wind Project, which will have a total capacity of 159 MW. The wind farm will include 106 GE turbines, each with a capacity of 1.5 MW.

The 25-year agreements call for Minnkota to purchase 99 MW of generation and Otter Tail to purchase 19.5 MW of generation. The remaining 40.5 MW of generation will be owned by Otter Tail.

In concert with the development of the wind farm, Minnkota and Otter Tail plan to upgrade 35 miles of 41.6 kv transmission line to 115 kv in order to enable the wind power to reach load centers. The new wind farm and related transmission upgrade are scheduled to be completed by early 2008.
