LCG, April 13, 2026--The EIA today released an "In-brief Analysis" of U.S. coal-fired generating capacity retirements in 2025. A highlight of the analysis is that, during 2025, the electric power sector retired 2.6 GW of coal-fired generating capacity at four power plants, which is (i) the least since 2010 and (ii) 5.9 GW less than the planned retirement of 8.5 GW at the beginning of 2025.

LCG, April 10, 2026--The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced yesterday a rule proposing several revisions to the federal regulations governing the disposal of coal combustion residuals (CCR) and the beneficial use of CCR. The EPA designed the rule to encourage resource recovery, allow for site-specific considerations in permitting, and provide regulatory relief while continuing to protect human health and the environment. The EPA will be accepting comments on the rule for 60 days after publication in the Federal Register, and it will also hold an online public hearing on the rule.

Vestas Wind Systems Off to a Fast Pace in 2008
LCG, January 11, 2008--Danish wind-turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems is off to a strong start this year. Enel SpA, through its subsidiary Enel North America, Inc., announced yesterday that the Snyder Wind project, which includes 21 Vestas V90 3.0 megawatt wind turbines, commenced operations in Scurry County, Texas. The turbines are mounted on towers at a height of 345 feet. Earlier this week, Vestas received an order from The AES Corporation for 52 of the V90-3.0 MW wind turbines to be delivered late this year. According to the announcement, the contract includes delivery, installation and commissioning of the turbines, along with a five-year service and maintenance agreement. In addition, Vestas received an order this week from Duke Energy for 55 units of the V82-1.65MW wind turbine for delivery in the latter half of this year to the Notrees Windpower project in Texas.
Last week, Horizon Wind Energy ordered 242 of the V82-1.65MW wind turbines, with delivery to start by year end. RES Americas also ordered 33 units of the V90-3.0 MW wind turbines to be used at the Central Plains Wind Farm in western Kansas. Delivery is planned for latter half of this year. Both orders include a five-year service and maintenance agreement
Finally, it was announced on January 4, 2008 that China Guangdong Nuclear Wind Power Co. Ltd. ordered 232 units of the V52-850 kW turbines for use in four wind projects in Inner Mongolia. Delivery is scheduled to begin in mid-2008 and to be completed by the end of 2009.
