LCG, June 29, 2026--Constellation announced on June 26 that it has filed license renewal applications with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to extend for 20 years the operations of Ginna Clean Energy Center and Nine Mile Point Unit 1 reactors in upstate New York to 2049. Constellation stated that it's decision to invest in these plants to extend their safe and reliable operations into mid-century demonstrates that New York State's renewal of its Zero Emissions Credit (ZEC) program is working as intended. DTE Selects GE Hitachi's ESBWR
LCG, June 18, 2008--Detroit Edison (DTE) selected GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy's Economic Simplified Boiling Water Reactor (ESBWR) design for a new nuclear reactor that may be constructed at DTE's existing Fermi-2 power plant site in Michigan.
DTE notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) that it intends to use the ESBWR in its submittal of a combined construction and operating license (COL) application this fall.
DTE has not committed to develop a new reactor; however, it is considering the opportunity and must submit an application prior to year-end to be eligible to receive federal financial incentives set forth in the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
The ESBWR design, which has a design capacity of 1,520 MW, has also been selected by Exelon, Dominion, and Entergy.
