Clipper Windpower and BP Wind Energy Announce Agreement for Huge Wind Project
LCG, October 23, 2008--Clipper Windpower Plc yesterday announced it has completed a 50:50, joint venture agreement with BP Wind Energy to develop the Titan Wind Project in South Dakota. The multi-phase project calls for over 2,000 wind turbines installed across 500,000 acres, with a total electric generating capacity of 5,050 MW. BP Wind Energy previously estimated the project cost to be $12-15 billion.
The agreement provides for Clipper to deliver up to 2,020 Liberty wind turbines if all phases of the project are completed. In addition, Clipper would provide operations and maintenance services for a five-year period. Clipper currently assembles the 2.5-MW Liberty wind turbine at its facility located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
According to previously released plans by BP Wind Energy, the initial phase will generate up to 50 MW. Phase two will add 1,500 MW and will likely be installed in 500 MW increments. Phases three and four will add another 3,500 MW to complete the project. The total project will likely require five to 10 years to complete.
