LCG, May 30, 2025--NuScale Power Corporation (NuScale), a leading provider of advanced small modular reactor (SMR) nuclear technology, yesterday announced that it has received design approval from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for its uprated 77 MW power modules. NuScale states that it remains the only SMR technology company with design approval from the NRC, and the company remains on track for deployment by 2030, with 50- and 77-MW SMR options.

LCG, May 29, 2025--The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) released an analysis yesterday showing that the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), the grid operator for most of the state, is increasing its curtailment of the rapidly growing solar- and wind-powered generation facilities in order to balance electricity supply and demand, which is necessary to maintain a stable electric system.

Waste-to-Power Project Gains Momentum in Maryland
LCG, February 5, 2009--The Northeast Maryland Waste Disposal Authority (NMWDA), together with the Frederick County Division of Utilities and Solid Waste Management and Carroll Country Department of Public Works, Tuesday announced the selection of Wheelabrator Technologies, Inc. as the preferred vendor to construct and operate a new waste-to-power facility to serve the solid waste disposal and energy needs of Frederick and Carroll Counties.
The greenfield facility will be designed to receive up to 1,500 tons per day of municipal solid wastes and to produce up to 55 MW of electricity. The facility will be located in Frederick County, Maryland.
The project is scheduled for completion in 2014. Project approval from both counties' Board of Commissioners will be sought shortly, with permitting, engineering and construction to follow.
Wheelabrator Technologies, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Waste Management, Inc.
