LCG, April 10, 2026--The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced yesterday a rule proposing several revisions to the federal regulations governing the disposal of coal combustion residuals (CCR) and the beneficial use of CCR. Sempra Proposes 48-MW Solar PV Project in Nevada
LCG, April 16, 2009--Sempra Generation, a subsidiary of Sempra Energy, yesterday announced plans to add a 48-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) electric generating system at its 10-MW solar facility, which is located approximately 40 miles southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada.
The project, Copper Mountain Solar, could be operational by late 2010, according to Sempra Generation. The company stated that construction will begin once power purchase agreements (PPA) are in place for the output. First Solar will be the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor.
The existing, 10-MW solar PV facility is adjacent to Sempra's 480 MW El Dorado Energy natural gas-fired power plant near Boulder City. The solar facility employs thin-film, solar PV technology manufactured by First Solar and incorporated in over 167,000 solar modules installed on 80 acres leased from Boulder City.
The initial solar project began construction in July 2008 and was completed in December, with First Solar acting as the EPC contractor. All of the power generated is contracted for purchase by Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E).
