Connecticut Seeks 2,000 MW of Offshore Wind Capacity

LCG, August 22, 2019--The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) on Friday released a request for proposals (RFP) for offshore wind power projects. DEEP is seeking up to 2,000 MW, as required under Public Act 19-71, An Act Concerning the Procurement of Energy Derived from Offshore Wind.

EIA Publishes Regional Electricity Supply and Pricing Forecasts Using UPLAN Model

LCG, August 13, 2019--The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) announced that it is revising the presentation and modeling of its forecasts for electricity supply and market hub pricing to better reflect current electricity markets and system operations in the U.S. Beginning with the August 2019 Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO), the new forecasting approach models electricity markets using the UPLAN production cost optimization software developed by LCG Consulting. EIA uses the solution results provided by this proprietary model to develop the STEO forecasts of monthly electricity generation, fuel consumption, and wholesale prices.

Alstom Completes Installation of 6-MW Offshore Wind Turbine

LCG, November 21, 2013--Alstom announced yesterday that it has completed the installation of its new offshore wind turbine, the 6-MW Haliade? 150, off Ostend harbor at the Belwind site in Belgium.

With the new offshore installation, Alstom achieves an important milestone in the industrialization process of its 6-MW turbine. The new turbine will now help to confirm how the machine behaves in the offshore environment for which it was specifically designed and developed.

The offshore wind turbine design includes: a 150-meter rotor, a direct drive (that eliminates a gearbox), and a permanent-magnet generator. The design is intended to improve efficiency and reliability, while reducing operating and maintenance costs.

The 61-meter jacket has been set on top of pillars sunk to a depth of over 60 meters. Then the three elements of the 78-meter tower were gradually assembled on the jacket. In all, the nacelle towers at a height of over 100 meters above sea level. The height of the Statue of Liberty, including the base, is 93 meters. The overall weight of the turbine and its structure totals 1,500 tonnes.
