LCG, October 16, 2026--The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) announced on Thursday its new proposal to revise and accelerate its review of air quality effects for proposed natural gas projects under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The draft policy statement highlights revisions designed to (i) avoid unnecessary delays and duplicative analysis and (ii) deliver greater regulatory certainty and a streamlined path forward for project applicants.

LCG, October 14, 2026--American Electric Power (AEP) today announced plans for a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google, under which AEP will invest approximately $4 billion to advance a new 702-MW fuel cell generation project located near Cheyenne, Wyoming. Google will acquire power from Cheyenne Fuel Cell, LLC, which is approximately 92 percent owned and controlled by AEP and 8 percent owned by funds advised by Basalt Infrastructure Partners, LLP. AEP and its partners plan to start construction this year and to be fully operational by the end of 2028.

Construction Milestone Achieved at New Nuclear Project in Georgia
LCG, November 22, 2013--Georgia Power announced yesterday the successful placement of the basemat structural concrete for the nuclear island at the Vogtle Unit 4 nuclear site in Georgia. Unit 4 is the second of two units currently under construction at Plant Vogtle, where the two existing reactors have been generating carbon-free power for over 25 years.
The construction milestone achieved this week marks a significant step in the project, which includes the installation of two 1,100-MW, AP1000 units. The project is one the leading new nuclear construction projects in the United States in three decades.
The Unit 4 basemat concrete placement encompassed approximately 7,000 cubic yards of concrete, which will serve as the foundation for all of the nuclear island structures, including the containment vessel and the shield building. It covered an area approximately 250 feet long and 160 feet wide at its widest point, and the concrete measured six feet in thickness.
Georgia Power Nuclear Development Executive Vice President and President of Southern Nuclear Development stated, "As we reach the midpoint in the historic construction of units 3 and 4, the visible progress at the site is setting the stage for a secure energy future for Georgia and the rest of the country. The success today exemplifies the strong coordination as one team consisting of Georgia Power, Southern Nuclear, Westinghouse and CB&I. The efficiencies across the project are evident as we achieve significant milestones which boost the local economy and will bring value to Georgia Power customers for decades."
The Unit 4 nuclear island has been fully formed and backfilled to grade elevation. The containment vessel bottom head (CVBH) and supporting CR10 cradle are complete and will be placed on the Unit 4 nuclear island following concrete curing. In parallel, the Unit 4 turbine building foundation has been completed and wall sections are currently being placed that also will take the turbine building to grade elevation.
Southern Nuclear, a subsidiary of Southern Company, is overseeing construction and will operate the two new 1,100-megawatt AP1000 units for Georgia Power and co-owners Oglethorpe Power Corporation, the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia and Dalton Utilities. Southern Company's Georgia Power subsidiary owns 45.7% of the expansion project, while Oglethorpe Power Corporation (OPC) owns 30%, the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia (MEAG) owns 22.7%, and the municipal utility in Dalton, Georgia (Dalton Utilities), owns 1.6%.
