LCG, May 29, 2025--The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) released an analysis yesterday showing that the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), the grid operator for most of the state, is increasing its curtailment of the rapidly growing solar- and wind-powered generation facilities in order to balance electricity supply and demand, which is necessary to maintain a stable electric system.

Turlock Irrigation District Enters Power Purchase Agreement with SunPower for 54-MW Solar PV Project in California
LCG, November 12, 2015-Turlock Irrigation District (TID) and SunPower announced yesterday a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for energy generated from the Rosamond Solar site in Kern County, California. SunPower expects to begin construction this month on the 54-MW (AC) solar photovoltaic (PV) project, which is scheduled to commence operations by the end of next year.
The TID board of directors approved the solar power purchase earlier in March of this year, following a comprehensive bidding and study process.
TID's general manager stated, "This power purchase agreement puts TID on a clear path to meet both current and future RPS obligations and clean climate goals, as well as continuing a long standing commitment to a diverse and reliable mix of generation resources to serve TID customers. While asset ownership has been the approach for nearly all of TID's other power generation facilities, this long-term power purchase agreement is competitively priced with conventional energy sources and will also allow the district to benefit indirectly from federal tax incentives set to be reduced at the end of 2016."
California's landmark legislation SB 350, which was signed into law last month, raises the renewables goal for California from a renewables portfolio standard (RPS) target of 33 percent renewable energy in 2020 to 50 percent in 2030.
SunPower will design and install SunPower Oasis Power Plant systems. The technology includes SunPower's proprietary robotic solar panel cleaning capability that uses 75 percent less water than traditional cleaning methods and can help improve system performance. SunPower may expand the Rosamond Solar site to provide up to 300 MW of solar capacity.
