Entergy Texas Proposes 993-MW Combined-Cycle Plant in Texas

LCG, October 12, 2016--Entergy Texas submitted an application Friday to the Texas Public Utility Commission for approval to build a natural gas-fired power plant in Southeast Texas. The 993-MW combined-cycle project is estimated to cost approximately $937 million. Given timely approval, construction is anticipated to begin in early 2019. Operations are scheduled to commence in 2021.

Entergy expects the additional electric generating capacity will be needed to meet a 700-MW supply shortfall forecast in 2021. Given load growth, aging power plants, and expiring power supply contracts, the shortfall is expected to increase to 1,200 MW by 2022.

Entergy Texas' president and CEO stated, "We are planning for the future. As utilities, we have to look way, way far in advance."

The proposed electric generating facility would be built just west of Willis, where the company already has a small facility.
