RWE and Indiana Michigan Power Company Sign Long-term PPA for 200 MW Wind Project

LCG, December 18, 2025--RWE and Indiana Michigan Power Company (I&M), an American Electric Power (AEP) company, today announced their partnering to provide new wind power generation capacity online to meet Indiana’s growing electricity demand. The companies signed a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for the total output from RWE’s 200 MW Prairie Creek wind project in Blackford County, Indiana. I&M will purchase electricity from the wind project, which will further diversify its portfolio and be consistent with its all-of-the-above strategy to secure generation for its rapidly growing electricity demand.

PJM Capacity Rules Drive Mon Power to Evaluate Options for Bath County Pumped Storage Project

LCG, November 16, 2016--FirstEnergy Corp. subsidiary Mon Power Friday announced that it has initiated a review of its ownership stake in the Bath County Pumped Storage Project located in Warm Springs, Virginia. Mon Power's review is driven by recent changes in the PJM capacity market that are expected to reduce sharply its capacity revenues from the facility.

Mon Power has an indirect ownership interest in the pumped storage hydroelectric generating facility that includes a higher and lower reservoir and a powerhouse interconnected by tunnels. The powerhouse includes six pump-turbines that (i) generate power when water flows from the higher to the lower reservoir (and hourly power prices are relatively high) and (ii) consume power to pump water from the lower to upper reservoir (when power prices are relatively low, e.g., at night). Dominion Resources, Inc. subsidiary Virginia Electric and Power Company is the majority owner and operator of the facility, which has a total generating capacity of approximately 3,000 MW.

The new capacity rule for PJM, the regional transmission operator, is expected to reduce the value of pumped storage generation stations because they cannot produce electricity continuously during all hours of the day. Mon Power estimates that, under the new rules, its capacity revenues from Bath County will be roughly cut in half.

First Energy Corp. sold a number of hydro facilities in 2014, when it completed the sale of 11 other hydroelectric power stations to Harbor Hydro Holdings, LLC, a subsidiary of LS Power Equity Partners II, LP. The total capacity of those hydroelectric facilities was 527 MW, including the Seneca Pumped Storage Hydro Plant (451 MW), located in northwestern Pennsylvania.
