Commission Approves Entergy Louisiana's Proposed 980-MW Combined-cycle Plant

LCG, November 23, 2016--Entergy Louisiana, LLC announced last Thursday that it has received approval from the Louisiana Public Service Commission (LPSC) to construct a natural gas-fired, combined-cycle power plant in St. Charles Parish. With the approval, Entergy Louisiana plans to proceed to install the 980-MW electric generating facility, which is scheduled to commence commercial operations by June 2019.

The president and CEO of Entergy Louisiana stated, "Entergy Louisiana's investment in the St. Charles Power Station will power the lives of Louisiana residents for generations to come. We appreciate the Louisiana Public Service Commission's comprehensive review and decision on our proposal to build this much-needed plant."

Entergy Louisiana estimates the cost of the project to be approximately $869 million, including transmission and other project-related costs. The project site is located about 30 miles from New Orleans. Once the project is completed, Entergy Louisiana will employ approximately 27 people to operate the plant.

The new plant's high efficiency is forecast by Entergy Louisiana to result in customer savings exceeding $1.3 billion over the anticipated 30-year life of the unit. The customer savings are estimated to exceed the project's construction cost in less than 10 years.
