LCG, October 16, 2026--The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) announced on Thursday its new proposal to revise and accelerate its review of air quality effects for proposed natural gas projects under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The draft policy statement highlights revisions designed to (i) avoid unnecessary delays and duplicative analysis and (ii) deliver greater regulatory certainty and a streamlined path forward for project applicants.

LCG, October 14, 2026--American Electric Power (AEP) today announced plans for a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google, under which AEP will invest approximately $4 billion to advance a new 702-MW fuel cell generation project located near Cheyenne, Wyoming. Google will acquire power from Cheyenne Fuel Cell, LLC, which is approximately 92 percent owned and controlled by AEP and 8 percent owned by funds advised by Basalt Infrastructure Partners, LLP. AEP and its partners plan to start construction this year and to be fully operational by the end of 2028.

Wind Power Output in ERCOT Exceeds 15,000 MW
LCG, November 30, 2016--A new wind power record of over 15,000 MW was achieved at 12:35 p.m. on November 27 in Texas for the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) region. The region used 15,033 MW of electricity from wind farms, which accounted for approximately 45 percent of the total demand for electric power at the time. Wind farms in West and North Texas delivered more than 8,800 MW, the South region provided almost 3,800 MW, and approximately 2,300 MW came from the Panhandle region.
The portion of load served by wind on November 27 ranged from about 35 percent to more than 46 percent, averaging nearly 41 percent throughout the day. The current record for percentage of load served is 48.28 percent and was set earlier this year on March 23.
ERCOT's Senior Director of System Operations stated, "We saw high wind output throughout the day, ranging from just over 10,000 MW during the late night hours to this peak output during the noon hour. Over the years, ERCOT has taken a number of steps, such as improving renewable generation forecasts, to allow us to operate the grid reliably on days like this."
There is over 17,000 MW of installed wind generation capacity serving the ERCOT system today, and that total is expected to exceed 19,000 MW by year-end.
In 2015, wind generation provided 11.7 percent of the energy used in the ERCOT region. As of the end of October, wind had served 14.7 percent of the region???s energy needs in 2016.
