LCG, October 16, 2026--The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) announced on Thursday its new proposal to revise and accelerate its review of air quality effects for proposed natural gas projects under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The draft policy statement highlights revisions designed to (i) avoid unnecessary delays and duplicative analysis and (ii) deliver greater regulatory certainty and a streamlined path forward for project applicants.

LCG, October 14, 2026--American Electric Power (AEP) today announced plans for a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google, under which AEP will invest approximately $4 billion to advance a new 702-MW fuel cell generation project located near Cheyenne, Wyoming. Google will acquire power from Cheyenne Fuel Cell, LLC, which is approximately 92 percent owned and controlled by AEP and 8 percent owned by funds advised by Basalt Infrastructure Partners, LLP. AEP and its partners plan to start construction this year and to be fully operational by the end of 2028.

GRDA and MHPS Achieve Milestone with J-Class Gas Turbine at Grand River Energy Center
LCG, May 31, 2017--The Grand River Dam Authority (GRDA) reached another key milestone at its Grand River Energy Center in Oklahoma, where a new, 495-MW combined cycle power plant equipped with a Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) M501J gas turbine has recently been built. The gas turbine is the first of its kind installed in the Americas, and the new unit achieved a significant milestone by sustaining reliable power generation just 45 days after first fire. Achieving reliable power generation output means GRDA can now sell electricity to the grid.
The new natural gas facility will replace an older, coal-fired facility installed in the 1980's at the same site, which is located approximately 35 miles east of Tulsa.
In January 2014, GRDA selected MHPS to provide the gas and steam turbine, with a generator to be supplied by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation. GRDA broke ground on Grand River Energy Center Unit 3 in January 2015. The gas turbine achieved first fire on March 14, 2017 in its first attempt and two days later synchronized to the grid to first produce electricity for GRDA and MISO Power Pool customers. The new power plant is on schedule to be fully operational this summer.
The MHPS turbine installed at the Grand River Energy Center is the first J-Series to be built at the Savannah Machinery Works in Savannah, Georgia. GRDA signed a 25-year long term service agreement with MHPS as part of the project.
MHPS Americas President and CEO stated, "This is our 23rd J-Series gas turbine installed globally, and our first in the Americas. This is an important milestone for our company, and we're proud to announce that the MHPS gas turbine at the Grand River Energy Center has responded flawlessly during the startup process and has significantly exceeded its performance guarantee. GRDA is now able to sell power to the grid ahead of schedule. Successful and smooth commissioning is critical for MHPS, because our team is preparing to commission eleven more J-Series turbines in North America during the next 12-24 months."
