The utility, a subsidiary of of American Electric Power (AEP), is requesting authorization to recover estimated costs of about $1.36 billion to become part-owner of the Wind Catcher project and to construct a 765-kV transmission line to deliver electricity to a Public Service Co. of Oklahoma (PSO) substation north of Tulsa.

As announced, SWEPCO will own 70 percent of the project, including 1,400 MW of wind capacity. PSO will own 30 percent of the project, including 600 MW of wind capacity. PSO had expected the Wind Catcher project would be operational in late 2020. The $4.5 billion project is AEP's largest planned renewable energy investment.
