NTE Energy and MHPS Open Kings Mountain Energy Center
LCG, August 29, 2018--Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Americas (MHPS), NTE Energy and local government officials yesterday met at the Kings Mountain Energy Center (KMEC), located in Cleveland County, North Carolina, to mark the formal start of operations of NTE Energy's 475 MW natural gas-fired power plant featuring MHPS technology.
KMEC, completed at an estimated cost of $500 million, is owned and operated by NTE Carolinas LLC. Construction began in March 2016.
Operations of the KMEC follow three months after NTE Energy opened its Middletown (Ohio) Energy Center. Both facilities have a similar, 1x1x1 combined-cycle design, including the MHPS M501GAC gas turbine.
The president and CEO of MHPS Americas stated, "Together, NTE and MHPS are bringing a change in power to the United States. MHPS's proven, advanced-class gas turbine technology is the perfect partner to North Carolina's growing power resources."
NTE Energy CEO stated, "We're excited to partner with MHPS Americas as the gas turbine supplier for the Kings Mountain Energy Center. This advanced-class gas turbine provides much needed efficient and reliable power generation to the region."
MHPS manufactured the gas turbine for KMEC at Savannah Machinery Works (SMW), an ultra-modern manufacturing facility located in Savannah, Georgia.
